How do you make women's football more attractive? Simple. Make the players wear tighter shorts. That was what Sepp Blatter had suggested back in 2004. At the time the FIFA president's comments caused uproar with Norwegian female footballer Lise Klaveness saying. "If the crowd only wants to come and watch models, then they should go and buy a copy of Playboy," but in America it looks like his suggestion has come to light. ![]() At the recent Women's Puma fashion show, Puma unveiled its new sporty skirt design for the Women's Soccer League. According to Puma the new skirt 'brings a sense of fashion, flair and femininity' but wearing the new mini-skirt style wrap is not obligatory so players can still choose shorts. Women's Professional Soccer League have come up with this idea in an effort to improve ratings ahead of the start of their first-ever season. 'I think there might be a few players that try to go ahead and wear it. It's something different,' said US keeper and St Louis Athletica stopper Hope Solo of the Puma kit. But she also offered reservations saying 'I'm not sure what the skirt will look like when I go for a dive, so I'm not sure it's goalkeeper friendly,' ![]() However, we’re convinced the new look will attracted more male viewers but we’re not sure this is a good thing as they really should be focused on the game. Whether the mini-skirt wraps will work here in Sweden remains to be seen. Source: metro.co.uk [BACK] |
