Dwele's story is familiar. A young man, born in Detroit, lives a life in song. From stirring melodies composed on piano keys, he writes poignant music, performs with natural grace, and captivates with his clear, silky tone. He is a songwriter, producer, and vocalist carrying on a Motown-inspired tradition instilled in another era. Yet, Dwele has cultivated his own spirited road with two critically acclaimed albums "Subject" and "Some Kinda" behind him. His story in sounds resonates with genuine soul, and he's only completed the first chapter.
"I play every instrument," he says, lounging on a couch, steps away from the studio in his home, surrounded by earth tones. "I try to be a complete artist." Dwele's music impresses with maturity beyond his years. He captures the rawness of inner city blues with hip-hop nuances that speak to his generation, and beyond. Born Andwele Gardner he began writing songs at the age of ten. His ear was shaped by the Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and Miles Davis that his mother and late father played in their home for he and his brother Antwon, a music major, who also plays in Dwele's band.
