If you've been reading the paper recently or wandering around town then you might have seen this beautiful, brightly coloured, young woman smiling at you.
Her name is Emanuela de Paula and she's not Afro-Swedish but Brazillian and has replaced Pernille Holmboe as the new model for the Swedish clothing store Gina Tricot.
Emanuela de Paula was born to a white Brazilian mother and an Afro-Brazilian father. "I am what we call 'mulata'". She has stated 'to be one of the few models to represent black women in the fashion industry.'
Emanuela had an interest in fashion from the age of 15 and signed up with the Marilyn Agency, the first agency she visited.
However, in 2011, despite the success of household names such as Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks and Chanel Iman, black models are still discriminated against. This has resulted in a lack of new black fashion models hitting the catwalks, and if asked to name an Asian or Chinese model it would probably feature as the final question on 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire'.
Be it the fashion designers choice or the fashion industry itself, people are not all one colour and it's time other advertisers also started to recognise this.
