![]() Photo: Flickr I have over 900 personal pictures on Facebook but should I be worried? Sharing your content and information might not be the smartest thing, and most of the people who sign up for different community sites are aware of this. But why is no one frowning when submitting something personal? I know that it must seem like a drag when you have to read all the information about Facebook when signing up for an account, but when you take your time to actually read it through you notice a lot of useful information you might or might not know already. One of the points within the information you “read” before signing an account on Facebook actually tells you that by signing an account you give them full permission to subject to your privacy and application settings and that you grant them a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook. You, on the other hand own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through you privacy and application settings. But, when you delete IP content, it is similar to as when you are emptying a recycle bin on your computer. The information is not really fully deleted, because the removed content may persist in the backup copies. Even though your information might persist in Facebook’s backup system you can still “disappear” on Facebook, with conditions that you un-tag yourself from everything, because even though you delete your own albums and pictures you are still on your friend’s pictures. This is the only option you have really, and it’s kind of sad because your privacy is not in your own hands, it’s in Facebook’s and you don’t have the option to disappear from their backup system either. But, if Facebook back up your pictures so can you, with Backupify. This is the only online data backup and storage provider that enables users to backup their cloud accounts. Company’s services can be defined as “shared clouds” which means that the company has important data locked up in a cloud-based application. Backupify provide daily automatic backups, archiving and exporting for all your social media and SaaS data (Software as a System data), which is a software that is deployed behind a firewall on a local area network or PC. Backupify is not just about backup, it is about you taking control of your own data even though Facebook does it as well. Better to have control, than none at all. So I urge you to go in to www.backupify.com and read more about it to be on the safe side. It says on Facebook that the age limit for signing a Facebook account is 13. I am assuming they’ve chosen the age 13, because that is when you are “fully aware” of what you are doing in the sense of knowing how community sites work, and that the age 13 is when you are old enough to decide without parent supervision and signature. But 13-year olds nowadays are incredibly immature for their age, and since civilization has no mature filter because everything is “ok” and out in the open; these kids breathe in the unhealthy pollution the society is giving out. Young girls are undoubtedly more vulnerableYoung girls are undoubtedly more vulnerable now than when I was a kid. 10 year olds start wearing mascara and leopard-printed leggings and tight tunics to accentuate their skinny bodies. In pictures they are pouting their mouths, posing inappropriately that may mislead the wrong crowd. Everybody’s craving for attention and sometimes that might lead to the grave. Some say that with age come wisdom, but in some cases this is not true. Take 18 year old Nona Belomesoff (left) for instance. She was believed that she was going to work with an animal welfare organization when she left her home to meet two men she befriended on Facebook. She was found dead in a creek bed in Sydney two days later. The Police are actually urging teenagers to remove their profile pictures and personal details from Facebook after a 20 year-old-man was charged with her murder. This man was masquerading as someone who worked with animals and she believed him. There are many reasons to be nervous about submitting personal information on your Facebook. Some employers actually go via Facebook to see if the interviewee is suitable for the job, to see if the applicant is suitable and flawless. Bottom line is, do not be naïve and don’t trust anyone who wants to befriend you, and since you are uploading pictures and personal information including you CV, make sure you know what you are doing and double-check your contents if let’s say your future employer would like to investigate you. So should you fear Facebook? Well, in a way yes you should. Derya Aktas Bibliography Derya Aktas is born 1989 in Stockholm, Sweden. My guess is that facebook will continue to grow for two years. Then too much of stuff like this has happened (what happened to Nona) so people will one after one delete their account for their own security.
And why do you enter facebook? Because everyone is there.. but if one after one delete themsevles. Why are you still there? You are not!
Remember.. what goes up must come down. So will Facebook.
