SVT airs children's programme with racism - again

Urbanlife reported in 2009( http://urbanlife.se/sv/livet/allmaent/355-an-image-that-belongs-in-history) about a programme in SVT Bolibompa with an obviously golliwog-like figure. The programme was reported to the Swedish Broadcasting Commission (Granskningsnämnden för Radio och TV), but was acquitted altogether. The Commission considered it not contrary to the provision on television's special impact.

 

That provision states that "Sveriges Television (SVT) may not transmit programs or elements that are obviously offensive to people with a certain skin color, nationality, religion or sexual orientation or against persons with various forms of disabilities or illnesses."

Racist signs banned from Daisy's restaurants

A guest at Daisy's restaurant in Aspudden recently discovered that part of the decor was a sign with a shocking theme: A sign had the text "Little African Licorice Drops - a dainty morsel" and showed a naked dark-skinned children being chased by an alligator.

Afro-Swedes demands Minister resignation

The National Association of Afro-Swedes calls for the resignation of Culture Minister Lena Adelsohn-Lijeroth. This is because she, according to the association, participated in a "tasteless racist manifestation."

They refer to when Adelsohn-Lijieroth at the celebration of World Art Day April 15 cut up a cake portraying a naked black woman. According to Afro Swedes' Association the cake represented a racist caricature of a black woman. According to the Modern Museum, the intention was to problematise female circumcision.

‪Swedish TV show calls rapper Ice Cube a "crack negro"!‬

During the show 'Nittileaks' on Swedish TV Kanal 5, Swedish celebrity Alex Schulman commented about his visit to Vine Street in L.A.  stating "det stod en crack-neger i varje hörn" ("there was a crack negro at every corner"). During the comment a picture of rapper Ice Cube was also shown.



The program hosts Filip and Fredrik (also Swedish Celebrities) laughed at his comment however their reaction is noted as being far from Harry Connick Jr  when he was in a similar situation.
