The rhythmic soca vibes are defiantly infectious and for proof of its effect, let us introduce you to the 29 year old Japanese singer MINMI. Urbanlife.se is about showing a world of beautiful, blending cultures and Minmi has confidently done this with reggae and soca.
As a young Hip-hop fan it was an unusual road to stardom for Minmi, which began on a night out when a DJ thrust a mike into her hand and told her to get up on stage and sing. And she did. “After singing in the reggae club, I got more and more serious about being a singer,” Minmi explains. “And I listened to more types of reggae when I eventually went to Jamaica – at first I only knew dancehall.”
Today Minmi has a big following in Japan as well as in Jamaica and Trinidad Tobago, the home of Soca music. So don't let any soca purists try and drown her in criticism, as far as we are concerned she’s great and hope to see her perform here in Sweden one day.
In the meantime enjoy the English version of ‘Sha na na’ featuring Machal Montano.
