Linton Kwesi Johnson

Are the youths of Sweden so contented with their lives that only money or sex can provide inspiration for music/rap lyrics?

What's happened to words that truly reflected your lifestyle and your fight against injustices?

Perhaps I shouldn't point the finger at Sweden alone as lyrically music seems to have suffered since Public Enemy split up.

Timbuktu leads the way for current social comments of Swedish youth but there should be an underground energy of fresh music and poetry from areas such as Rosengård, Tensta or Gottsunda. Let me provide some inspiration from the one of Britain's best Dub Poets Linton Kwesi Johnson.

Most of Johnson's poetry is political, dealing mainly with the experiences of being an African-Caribbean in Britain, "Writing was a political act and poetry was a cultural weapon...", he told an interviewer in 2008. Written in the 70's this is still extremely powerful, and although I despise violence, I cannot condemn the spirit.
