This year we've been delighted to see the return of Swedish soul singer Pauline and now, after a similar seven-year absence, Titiyo the 'Queen of Swedish Soul' is also back with the hottest video we've seen in a very long time. This is not for under 18s or mum and dad! After finally being encouraged by her family (Neneh and Eagle Eye Cherry) to go back to music the four-time Grammy winner Titiyo returns with a new album entitled 'Hidden'. The first track from the album ‘Stumble to fall’, defiantly has a Bond film feel about it. It’s a wonderfully eerie track, which, despite being 3minutes long, still seems incredibly short. Okay, if mum and dad have gone, press play! Enjoy ![]() . |

I totally get your point Mr or Ms. Anonmyous, that labeling Titiyo\'s latest albums soul music might be a stretch but the title \"Queen of Swedish Soul\" goes back to her breakthrough many years ago. It\'s a title created by the media (not herself), it was (in my view, and many others) a well deserved title and in many regards it\'s still well deserved. There are very few artists in Sweden with a better voice than Titiyo, soul music or not soul music.
But if you put things in a bigger perspective and take a look on how the Swedish music industry has treated artists within the soul/rnb genre, I can really agree with the fact that the industry in many ways forced the artists to move away from the more traditional sounds of soul/rnb, towards pop, rock or electro. If you want to discuss that , and similar questions, more, I very much welcome that. But try to be more constructive.
If you do want to be more edgy and raw, send in a column and we will post it on the site.
Kind regards,
Christian Hofverberg
As for her voice, well, it\'s a matter of opinion. I think I could easily mention about 30 other artists with a better voice than hers, and anytime I watch \"Så ska det låta\" I see unknown artists with great voices.
However, that just makes her change of style wiser - the new style fits the capacity of her voice much better, so it\'s a smart move. Just like Sade - her music is great, but if she would try to sing traditional soul standards her voice just wouldn\'t cut it.
True indeed. Still, if we label all kinds of rock and pop as Black music, that means that Tomas Ledin, Eva Dahlgren, Kent, Björk, U2 (and so on and on and on) are also making Black music. Moreover, look at the press pictures and videos she has released lately - she is undisputably more pale than she is naturally, and she was not made to look pale when she sang soul...
