Göran Olssons ‘Am I Black Enough For You’, is a highly visual documentary of the soul singer BILLY PAUL. Swedish director Göran Olsson's previous artistic portrait of Leila K "Fuck You, Fuck You Very Much" was appointed as the second best rock documentary of all time.

Billy Paul and Gorans Olsson

Billy Paul is a name that some may have forgotten to include in their list of soul greats and it’s a tribute to Göran that he’s found such a fascinating person such as Billy to film.

Billy Paul was close friends with personalities such as Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Stevie Wonder and his life is the story of the oppression of African-Americans and how the civil rights movement came to help to shape soul music.

The film ‘Am I Black Enough For You’ captures these influences in Billy Pauls life; the Philadelphia sound, the segregation of African-Americans in the U.S. and the life-long love story between Billy and his wife Blanche. It’s a film about music, love, marriage and life's complications.

When the film’s title song “Am I Black Enough For You" now a soul classic, was released, it was a total flop due to the white record buyers - who were in majority in the early 70s. They perceived the song text as too radical, a setback that nearly cost Billy his career.

The film takes place in the U.S., Paris and Brazil and has been entirely filmed at night to get the soul feeling. And it is packed with Billy's fantastic soul classics such as ‘Me and Mrs. Jones, Only the Strong  Survive and many more'.

Billy Paul himself will make his first visit to Sweden in March in connection with the documentary which premiers the same week.

He’ll be performing at Berns, Stockholm. Click here for more details.

Billy Paul performs together with Supreme Court Allstars, the band who backed Robyn at the recent the Swedish Grammy Awards.

Do not miss this film or a chance to see the great man live!
