Timbuktu

Jason Diakité, better known as Timbuktu, has been named this year's Martin Luther King Award winner. The prize, awarded by amongst others Afrosvenskarnas Riksförbund, is worth 25 000 SEK and Timbuktu will receive the prize, January 18 at Martin Luther King Day in Stockholm.

The justification reads: "...through his music he not only reveals hypocrisy and intolerance, but also builds bridges between people of different origins, ages and cultures. Jason is a role model of personal commitment against injustice, discrimination and narrow-mindedness. With his music he reaches out to many, in particularly the young, with a positive message that is really needed in our time. "

Reasoning that we at the Urbanlife definitely agree with. Jason shows with his music and live performances that commercial success and a meaningful message do not need to fight with each other. We hope that more artists dare to discover it.

That\'s fantastic! No other artist deserves this award more than Timbuktu for all his great words and songs promoting harmony, peace and understanding in Sweden. We\'re waiting for him to get his texts across the Atlantic and in the USA, and on continental Africa.
Congratulations and Good For You, Timbuktu. Good for you.
