The National Association of Afro-Swedes calls for the resignation of Culture Minister Lena Adelsohn Roth. This is because she, according to the association, participated in a "tasteless racist manifestation."
They refer to when Adelsohn Roth at the celebration of World Art Day April 15 cut up a cake portraying a naked black woman. According to Afro Swedes' Association the cake represented a racist caricature of a black woman. According to the Modern Museum, the intention was to problematise female circumcision.
Some men are born to become legends and one such man is Joseph Boulogne also known as Chevalier de Saint-Georges. 210 years since his death, the world seems to have forgotten this great Afro-French Composer, Violinist & Conductor who was also the best fencer in France and was a Colonel of the Black Legion.
But today, on June 10th, 2009, his memories will be revived and brought back to life so that the world can know and feel the man behind the legend.
Once again Usain Bolt made the world go crazy! The new World Record for 200 meters now stands at 19.19 seconds smashing his previous record of 19.30! What makes it all the more incredible is Usain also said he was ill-prepared for the 200mtrs having missed some of last season while celebrating his Gold in Beijing!
Stunning is just the first of many superlatives you could use to describe him.
Had I not suffered an injury to my back, I would have written this sooner but in hindsight it allowed me time for the emotions to settle and gave me time to reflect on Michael Jacksons passing.
When Angelina rang me early Friday morning and told me to turn on the TV I knew I was in a “Where were you when you heard”- moment. I remembered where I was when I first heard that Elvis had died, Bob Marley, John Lennon and even Olof Palme. My heart sank as the TV stirred into life as I feared I would be greeted with the face of Obama. I know I’m not alone when I think of him as a person of whom a minority may want to do harm. Instead the TV presented the image of Michael Jackson.
I was stunned. Not surprised or sad I guess, just stunned. As my children stared at the screen I began to explain who he was and why his death was a moment of note. As various pictures appeared of him throughout different periods in his life my daughter repeatedly asked ‘is that him, is that him?’
