At the end of February a group from the Swedish film industry will travel to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso to discuss cooperation with the film industry in Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal and Ghana.

African film has long been met with skepticism and ignorance from large parts of the Swedish film world. But now the wind has turned and Africa is such an exciting film continent that several of the strong names among Swedish film distributors, film festivals and institutions have chosen to travel down to the great pan-African Fespaco film festival in Ouagadougou. CinemAfrica has organized the trip and the meeting between the Swedish and the West African film industry.

- The project aims to create long-term and mutual learning projects surrounding festivals, education, film production and distribution and in many other areas of interest, "says CinemAfricas President Sandra Olivegren.

Fespaco, which turns 40 years this year, is the largest and most important African film festival.  Tarik Saleh shall also travel with the Swedish delegation to show his film 'Gitmo' about an issue of current discussion, Guantánamo.

From Folkets Bio, Katrina Mathsson,
public marketing, will additionally attend. She hopes that the project will provide Folkets Bio exciting, new and different films to show the Swedish film audience.

- The world is so much larger than normal cinema film, and if we can help to show other parts of the world for a Swedish cinema audience we would obviously do it! "Says Katrina Mathsson, Folkets Bio.

The Swedish delegation, which shall go to Fespaco, consists of representatives from seven different film organizations and from CinemAfrica. These organizations are: Gothenburg International Film Festival, the Swedish Film Institute, Dramatic Institute, The People's Cinema, Film Center, Stock Town and Tempo Documentary Festival.

Fespaco takes part between Feb 28 and March 7.

The Swedish Institute is the financier of this project.
